Canadian Mental Health Resources, and Crisis Lines

Canadian Crisis Lines, Federal and By Province

Crisis lines are the best lines to call if you’re feeling emotional support, crisis intervention, and/or help with problem solving. Most crisis lines are free, 24/7, and province-wide. Some of the bigger provinces have more than one.

Crisis Line or 911? It depends on the situation; however, I will say that  Crisis Lines have staff who are trained to handle mental health situations. They can both mitigate the crisis, and will know if a hospital stay is necessary. 911 will get you in the system, but it does not guarantee you will get connected with mental health professionals.

Because Ontario is really big in Canada in terms of Population, there are many crisis networks. What I will do is list the ones in the key urban centres: Toronto, Peel Region (Mississauga, Brampton, and Chalcedon), Ottawa, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Northern Ontario; and then later in the websites section, I’ll give the address to the full lists.
